Landmark Corten Steel Bridge for Zambia Ready for Shipment

Hangzhou FAMOUS Steel Engineering Co., Ltd. announced today the successful completion of manufacturing and quality inspection for the “Corten Steel Truss Bridge” project in Zambia, Africa. The 180-meter-long bridge is now in the final stages of packing and preparation for shipment. It is expected to be operational before the rainy season, injecting new momentum into local economic development.

Project Highlights: Corten Steel Technology Empowers African Infrastructure

As the first large-scale (weathering steel)  Corten Steel truss bridge in Africa, this project combines innovative material science with engineering expertise:

  • Corrosion Resistance: Corten steel forms a self-protective rust layer, resisting Zambia’s high temperatures and humidity, extending its lifespan by over 50% compared to traditional steel.

  • Lightweight Design: The bridge weighs only 850 tons, reducing transportation and installation challenges in remote African regions.

  • Rapid Assembly: Prefabricated modular structures with bolted connections shorten on-site construction to 4 months, avoiding rainy season delays.

“This bridge is not just a transportation link but a model of sustainable infrastructure,” said a Zambian transportation official. “Corten steel’s low-maintenance properties perfectly align with Africa’s long-term development needs.”

Empowering Africa: Unlocking Economic Potential, Building a Green Future

Upon completion, the Kasembe River Bridge will directly benefit 300,000 residents:

  • Improved Transport Efficiency: Agricultural product delivery time will drop from 6 hours to 1.5 hours, with annual spoilage rates expected to decrease by 40%.

  • Eco-Friendly Design: Compared to concrete bridges, steel structures reduce carbon emissions by 62% and are 100% recyclable.

“This bridge epitomizes the alignment between China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Africa’s practical needs,” said Gao, Director of International Business. “We are currently discussing similar projects in the DRC and Kenya, continuing to deliver Chinese steel solutions.”
